COPU reviews Wazeho Cement plant progress

DIMAPUR

The Committee on Public Undertakings (COPU), Nagaland Legislative Assembly, led by chairman Dr. Sukhato A. Sema, undertook a study tour to Wazeho on September 17 and 18 to assess the status of the Mini Cement Plant (MCP) and the Decorative & Dimensional Stone Plant (DDSP).
Accompanied by committee member Dr. Neisatuo Mero and special invitee Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe, MLA, 20-Meluri A/C and advisor for New & Renewable Energy, the team was joined by officials from the NLA Secretariat.
During the inspection, the Committee was briefed by NSMDCL that the MCP had been leased to M/S Ramung Enterprises for 30 years, with an MoU signed on November 12, 2024. While repair and renovation of machinery had been completed, trial production was delayed due to weather conditions. The Committee was informed that the lime deposits in the area are among the finest in the North-East, capable of producing 43-grade cement. A demonstration of the plant’s operations was conducted.
The Committee expressed satisfaction with the functioning of the DDSP, where interlocking and hollow block bricks are being manufactured. Discussions also included the potential of inland waterways to market cement products to neighbouring countries such as Myanmar and other Southeast Asian nations.
Recognizing the need for administrative infrastructure, the Committee recommended the establishment of an office in Wazeho to enhance operational efficiency and provide employment opportunities to locals.
The Committee conveyed appreciation to Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe, MLA & Advisor, and various government departments including the Department of Geology & Mining and NSMDCL for logistical support.
The committee also extended gratitude to the chief minister for backing the revival initiative and to the Speaker for facilitating the tour. The visit reaffirmed COPU’s commitment to monitoring public undertakings and supporting industrial revival for state revenue generation.
