Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland has joined the nationwide campaign to promote the Next-Gen GST Reforms aimed at reducing taxes and delivering substantial benefits to citizens and businesses. The announcement was made during a press conference held on Saturday at the BJP Office, Dimapur.
Addressing media persons, Akum Pongen, member secretary of the Next Gen GST Reform, BJP Nagaland, stated that the 56th GST Council meeting held on September 3, 2025, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, introduced landmark reforms to make the GST system more citizen-friendly.
The campaign, launched on September 22 and continuing till October 20, is being implemented across all districts of Nagaland through awareness drives. District committees have been formed to educate the public, especially the middle class, traders, and MSME sector, on the benefits of the revised GST structure.
Pongen informed that BJP karyakartas are reaching out to grassroots communities, while legislators led by the deputy chief minister, Y. Patton have visited marketplaces to engage directly with shopkeepers and traders, who have reportedly responded positively.
He stated that items previously taxed at 28% have been reduced to 18%, and those under the 18% slab brought down to 5%, benefitting poor and middle-class consumers. Calling the reform a historic milestone, Pongen said it reflects a decade of economic vision under the Modi government, with rate cuts implemented on 99% of goods in the 12% bracket and 90% in the 28% bracket.
Therali Ezung, BJP Nagaland State secretary, also addressed the press.
