LPG rush sparks consumer grievances in Dimapur

Staff ReporterDIMAPUR, MAR 13 (NPN):

Several domestic LPG consumers in Dimapur on Friday raised grievances over difficulties faced while purchasing domestic gas cylinders, even as officials and dealers maintained that there was no shortage of LPG supply in the district.
A large number of consumers were seen gathering at gas agencies from early morning, with many waiting in long queues as distribution was carried out strictly according to serial numbers.
Some consumers complained that they had been standing in line for several hours due to the slow pace of distribution. Many also raised concerns regarding the Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) system, alleging that some dealers were refusing to accept the DAC unless the registered mobile phone was physically shown at the agency. Consumers said this caused inconvenience, particularly for elderly persons or families where the registered phone was not carried by the person collecting the cylinder.
Consumers also reported difficulties in booking LPG refills, stating that calls to the booking number often remained busy during the day. Others said the DAC message was sometimes delayed even after successful booking, preventing them from collecting cylinders on time.
Responding to the concerns, manager of Zinyu Gas Agency Bendang Jamir clarified that there was no shortage of domestic LPG cylinders and that the issue mainly concerned commercial cylinders used by hotels and restaurants.
He said under the system introduced by Indian Oil Corporation, consumers must first book a refill and obtain a DAC on their registered mobile number before the cylinder can be issued.
Meanwhile, SDO (Civil) Dimapur Wiridin Zeliang said sufficient stock was available in the market and urged the public not to panic or indulge in hoarding, warning that black marketing of LPG cylinders would invite strict action. Furthermore, he informed that the Deputy Commissioner Dimapur will convene a meeting in this regard with the stakeholders and dealers soon.
