The second day of the platinum jubilee celebration of Thahekhu Village Baptist Church and Thahekhu village was marked by traditional displays and indigenous games, drawing more than 3000 participates on Monday. The three-day platinum jubilee celebration is being held on the theme “God of Generations”.
The cultural celebrations featured various performances including folk dance by women, and warrior dance, and indigenous games and sports such as spear throwing, wooden cart race, and high jump, etc.
Advisor for Tribal Affairs and Elections, H. Tovihoto Ayemi, who graced the occasion as the special guest during the cultural presentation session, lauded the successful organisation of the jubilee as a powerful reflection of the unity and collective spirit of the villagers. He stressed that unity remained the greatest strength of any community and urged the people to nurture and sustain this spirit in all circumstances.
Ayemi noted that the present generation was fortunate to witness the platinum jubilee, crediting the sacrifices and hardships endured by the village pioneers who established Thahekhu in 1951 for the progress seen today.
He called upon the community to honour this legacy by preserving unity and working together for the continued development of the village.
Highlighting the significance of cultural heritage, the advisor described culture as the core identity of a people and underscored the need to consciously safeguard traditions and practices.
He cautioned that without deliberate efforts, the younger generation risked gradually forgetting these valuable customs.
Describing Thahekhu as a blessed village widely recognised across Nagaland, Ayemi reminded residents that every member plays an integral role in its growth. He encouraged the community to remain humble, extend respect, and continue offering warm hospitality to visitors.
The programme was chaired by Platinum Jubilee Planning Committee convener Kiyezhe Aye and TVBC deaconess Allen A Shohe.
The invocation was offered by TVBC associate pastor Boqhito Chishi, followed by a special presentation titled “Jisu Kikimiye Akumzapu” by the Jubilee Choir.
In the evening session, TVBC pastor Bokato Sema delivered the main message, focusing on the theme “God of Generations: Mission.”
