World Hypertension Day observed at Amahator Town

DIMAPUR: Nature SBI Foundation Kiphire observed World Hypertension Day at Modern Cambridge School, Amahator Town, on May 16.
Speaking at the programme, staff nurse Pikhumla described hypertension as a “silent killer,” warning that untreated high blood pressure could lead to heart disease, stroke and kidney complications. She encouraged regular blood pressure checks and adoption of healthy lifestyle habits such as balanced diet, exercise, maintaining healthy weight, avoiding smoking and alcohol, and following medical advice.
She also shared tips on the DASH diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension), which emphasises fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low fat dairy and lean protein while reducing salt, sugar and saturated fat intake.
Chairman of the school management committee, T. Kirithong Sangtam, highlighted the importance of health awareness programmes for community welfare, noting that good health was essential to enjoy life fully. He thanked Nature SBI Foundation for organising the event.
Project lead of Nature SBI Foundation Nagaland, Longtili C. Sangtam, expressed gratitude to the school authority for hosting the programme. He explained that though World Hypertension Day is observed globally on May 17, the programme was held a day earlier as May 17 fell on a Sunday. He expressed hope that the awareness camp would benefit students and the public, and assured continued commitment of the foundation towards community welfare.
