Agartala, May 17 (PTI): A social media content creator was arrested here on Sunday for allegedly raping a woman after luring her with the promise of gifting an iPhone, police said.
A police officer said the woman, a resident of Dhalai district, came in touch with the content creator, who owned two mobile selling shops in Agartala, around three months ago, through social media and used to have regular chats with him.
The girl arrived at the Agartala railway station on Saturday evening following a call by the accused, who is married, police said.
“From the railway station, he took the woman to a nearby hotel and raped her on Saturday night on the pretext of gifting her an iPhone,” said Paritosh Das, the officer in charge of the Amtali police station.
Based on the woman’s complaint, the content creator was arrested, he said.
