DIMAPUR: The governing body of the 23 Impur Piggery Community Project and stakeholders held a review meeting at the residence of and advisor for Law & Justice and Land Revenue, T.N. Mannen, MLA in Mokokchung on June 11.
Addressing the gathering, Mannen advocated for Asetkong to emerge as a piggery farming hub in Mokokchung district and directed concerned departments to provide regular training and veterinary support to beneficiaries to ensure the project’s sustainability.
He also expressed hope that future leaders and stakeholders would continue to strengthen the initiative, enabling Asetkong farmers to meet the district’s growing demand for piggery products.
During the meeting, retired additional director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), Dr. Simon, discussed technical aspects of piggery farming, including feed requirements and disease control measures. District Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Tiachuba highlighted the importance of animal registration and livestock insurance, while Dr. Sarandi of KVK spoke on technical support and demonstration programmes available through the department.
Piggery Community Project Convenor Aongsen Aier presented a progress report and project details for discussion and approval. Launched in May 2016, the Impur Community Piggery Project covers nine villages under the 23 Impur Assembly Constituency. So far, 106 beneficiaries have received piglets, feeders and related equipment under the initiative.
