First Longleng District Football League kicks off

LONGLENG, JUN 12 (NPN): The first edition of the Longleng District Football League officially kicked off on June 12 at the local ground in Longleng headquarters, marking a significant milestone for football development in the district. The inaugural programme was graced by president of the Phom Sports Association (PSA), S. Yanger Angh, as the special guest.
The opening match between Super King Football Club and Laimeisham Football Club ended in a hard-fought 1-1 draw, setting the tone for an exciting tournament ahead.
In his address, Yanger Angh lauded the Longleng District Football Association (LDFA) for organizing the league, describing football as more than just a sport but a medium that instils discipline, unity and teamwork. He urged players to adopt dedicated self-discipline, stressing that athletic commitment translates into success in life. He further highlighted the socio-economic potential of sports, noting that professional leagues can provide viable career opportunities for youth and help address unemployment challenges.
Delivering the welcome address, LDFA President Shri Pangnau Phom expressed optimism about the future of football in the district. He said the league would unearth hidden talents and inspire the next generation of athletes. He appealed to all participating teams to uphold professionalism, camaraderie, and true sportsmanship while showcasing their talent.
President of the All Ward Union Longleng, N. Atok Phom, also exhorted the players to cultivate discipline, teamwork and resilience, describing these virtues as essential both on and off the pitch. The inaugural day witnessed enthusiastic participation from players and spectators alike, reflecting strong community support for grassroots sports. A total of eight clubs from Longleng district are competing for the coveted trophy and cash prize.
