Emporium inaugurated in Tuensang to boost artisans

DIMAPUR: Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Tuensang, Berimong Chang, inaugurated the Emporium at Tuensang on Tuesday, describing the infrastructure as an important index of development and emphasizing that progress is a collective process.
According to DIPR report, addressing the gathering, Chang said the Emporium would strengthen the town’s economy by creating opportunities for local artisans to improve their livelihoods while showcasing their cultural identity. He noted that many skilled artisans lacked adequate market access and expressed hope that the facility would serve as a catalyst for larger enterprises by providing a permanent platform for displaying and marketing their products.
Stressing the importance of originality, he said every traditional product carries its own story and cultural significance, asserting that preserving authenticity would enhance the value of indigenous crafts and attract tourists, visitors and traders. He also expressed confidence that the younger generation would be inspired to take up traditional enterprises with potential to reach international markets.
Highlighting Tuensang’s multi tribal and cosmopolitan character, Chang said the district offers immense opportunities to showcase diverse products produced by different communities. He further underlined the role of digital platforms, noting that local products could be promoted globally through social media, e commerce and other online avenues.
Earlier, Divisional Accounts Officer (DAO), PWD Housing, Tuensang, and former POU member of NEPED, Takum Chang, described the inauguration as a landmark occasion, marking not merely the opening of a building but the beginning of new opportunities and markets for artisans of Eastern Nagaland.
He said the project was conceived to provide a dedicated platform where unique skills and creativity could find recognition and economic value.
Er. P. Ngamen Chang also spoke, stating that the Emporium would benefit artisans of Tuensang and provide opportunities for products from all tribes of Nagaland to reach international tourists, visitors and traders.
The programme was chaired by POU member, NEPED, Asa Tep, while Rev. Noksen pronounced the invocation.
Established with support of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, and implemented by Nagaland Empowerment of People through Economic Development (NEPED), the Emporium is expected to become a vibrant centre for preserving traditional craftsmanship, promoting entrepreneurship and strengthening Tuensang’s economy.
It will also serve as a platform for showcasing the cultural wealth and diverse indigenous products of Eastern Nagaland to the world, fostering sustainable livelihoods and opening avenues for artisans to access national and international markets.
