Supongmeren reviews schemes at DISHA meeting

DIMAPUR: Lok Sabha MP, S. Supongmeren Jamir, attended the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Conference Hall, Phek, on June 24.
Addressing the meeting, Supongmeren urged members to proactively sensitise the public so that more people could benefit from government schemes. He said with government employment opportunities becoming limited, people should explore entrepreneurship and other livelihood avenues. Highlighting the district’s potential, he noted that Phek is well suited for farming and animal husbandry due to its vast land resources.
Expressing concern that no new beneficiaries had been added under the old age pension scheme since 2017, Supongmeren assured that he would take up the matter with the concerned ministry. He also stressed the need for timely disbursement of victim compensation and elimination of unnecessary delays. He further informed the meeting about initiatives to improve telecommunication connectivity in various parts of the district.
Advisor for CAWD, Kudecho Khamo, thanked Supongmeren on behalf of the Chakhesang community for his contributions to the state’s development. He urged departments and stakeholders to sincerely implement projects and welfare schemes. Khamo also highlighted the importance of maintaining accurate data on elderly persons, widows and persons with disabilities (PwDs) to enable effective pursuit of welfare matters with concerned ministries.
State level DISHA members Medokul Sophie and Toshipokba Longkumar also attended the meeting. Presentations were made by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, District Education Office, Social Welfare Department and SANKALP–District Hub for Empowerment of Women under Mission Shakti.
Deputy Commissioner and member secretary of DISHA, Rhousietho Nyuthe, highlighted the increase in POCSO cases in the district, attributing the rise to improved awareness and reporting through sustained sensitisation efforts.
Following the meeting, Supongmeren, Khamo, committee members and heads of offices participated in a tree plantation drive.
