DoPN launches disconnection drive in Kohima

DIMAPUR, JUN 25 (NPN): Power department has launched an extensive disconnection drive against defaulting consumers under Kohima electrical division for non-payment of electricity bills, including government offices, SPM villages and users with illegal or unauthorised connections.
In a press release, electrical division Kohima executive engineer Shiludi Lkr informed that the drive has already commenced and urged all categories of consumers in both urban and rural areas to clear their outstanding electricity bills at the earliest to avoid disconnection. The department also warned the public against illegal and unauthorised use of electricity through practices such as hooking, meter tampering and bypassing energy meters.
Stating that such activities constituted serious offences under the Indian Electricity Act, 2003, the department cautioned that violators could face penalties, including fines, imprisonment or both.
Consumers facing discrepancies in their electricity bills or other related grievances have been advised to visit the offices of their respective SDO (Electrical) for clarification, correction and rectification.
The department further encouraged all consumers, including prepaid metered users, to utilise its online portal https://dopn.gov.in for bill payments and recharge services.
As frequent transformer failures have been linked to unregulated electricity consumption, the department also advised consumers to install smart meters to promote judicious use of electricity, reduce stress on power infrastructure and minimise damage to transformers and wires.
