DIMAPUR, JUL 7: The Lumami Campus Sports Club (LCSC) of Nagaland University has begun live screening of the FIFA World Cup 2026 on a giant screen at the University Auditorium in an effort to promote sportsmanship, community engagement and a vibrant campus culture.
The live screenings are open to the entire university fraternity, including teaching and non-teaching staff, research scholars, students and their family members residing on the Lumami campus. The screenings will continue throughout the tournament until the final, allowing the university community to experience one of the world’s biggest sporting events together.
The initiative has received the support of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jagadish Kumar Patnaik, who is also the Chief Patron of the Lumami Campus Sports Club, and Registrar Dr. Abemo, the club’s Patron. Both appreciated the club’s efforts to promote a healthy sporting culture and strengthen community bonding through the collective viewing of the tournament.
The Lumami Campus Sports Club expressed gratitude to the university authorities for their encouragement, logistical support and administrative approval, which made the initiative possible.
Speaking on the occasion, LCSC president Lanuzulu said the FIFA World Cup screening marks the opening event for the upcoming LCSC Sports Meet 2026.
He expressed hope that the initiative would create an energetic sporting atmosphere on campus while encouraging greater participation in future sports activities.
Lanuzulu also acknowledged the contributions of the organising committee members, including General Secretary Akala, Assistant General Secretary Hukheto, Medo and Yanpo, for their commitment in successfully organising the event.
With football enthusiasts gathering to watch matches throughout the tournament, the initiative is expected to foster unity, friendship and sportsmanship among members of the Nagaland University community.
The club also noted that since its establishment on September 18, 2012, at the university’s Lumami headquarters, the Lumami Campus Sports Club has been actively promoting sports and recreational activities, culminating in its annual sports tournament each year.
