DIMAPUR, JUL 16 (NPN): A one-day seminar on Basic Officiating Procedure in Athletics, organised by the Office of the District Youth Resources & Sports Officer (DYRSO), Longleng, in collaboration with the Phom Sports Association (PSA), was held at the CMTC Hall, Longleng, on July 16.
According to DIPR, Deputy Commissioner and chairman of the Longleng District Sports Council, W. Manpai Phom, while addressing the gathering, credited the District Sports Council and the Phom Sports Association for initiating the seminar, describing it as the first step towards strengthening the district’s sports ecosystem.
He thanked the participants for their commitment and expressed confidence that such initiatives would lay a strong foundation for the growth and development of sports in Longleng. He also stressed the need for exposure to national and international-level expertise to help athletes from the district compete at higher levels.
The deputy commissioner appreciated the efforts of the DYRSO in organising the programme and urged the resource persons to share their knowledge and experiences to help build a robust sporting ecosystem, identify talented athletes from rural areas, and nurture them into professional sportspersons.
District Sports Officer, Longleng, Kenongoto Thokhwe, proposed the vote of thanks.
The technical sessions were conducted by resource persons Neikuosielie, PET, DOC(S), and Bongshet Phom, PET, who covered topics including call room and track events, starters, field events, question-and-answer sessions, and practical demonstrations.
The seminar aimed to enhance awareness of athletics officiating procedures and promote athletics in the district. Representatives from all federating units under the Phom Area Sports Association attended the programme. The programme began with an invocation by PSA Finance Secretary B. Bomlei Phom, followed by a welcome address from PSA vice-president Hamnyei Angh.
