DIMAPUR : A three day training programme for ATMA functionaries on the theme “Promotion of Natural Farming in NE Region” was conducted by the State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) from May 28 to 30, 2026.
The inaugural session was chaired by Yezaho Swu, deputy project director, SAMETI. Delivering the keynote address, Bodevi Shuya, director of SAMETI and principal of IETC, Medziphema, underscored the importance of natural farming as a sustainable approach that works in harmony with nature through the use of local resources, organic inputs and eco friendly practices. He emphasized that adopting natural farming was essential for restoring soil health, conserving water, reducing dependence on costly chemical inputs, ensuring food security, maintaining ecological balance, and producing healthier food for present and future generations.
Resource persons for the training included Seyievonuo, deputy director (Natural Farming), Directorate of Agriculture, Nagaland; Dr. Bendangla Imsong, SMS/CTO, KVK Dimapur, ICAR NE Region, Nagaland Centre; Dr. Alika N. Zhimo, SDO (SC), current charge DSCO Tuensang; and Dr. Virosanuo Solo, Scientist (Agronomy), AICRP Department of Agronomy.
The programme covered a range of topics related to natural farming practices. Hands on demonstrations of Jeevamrut and Beejamrut were conducted by Piketo Zhimo, BRC Dimapur, and Menovikho Keyho, BRC Piphema Old, to provide participants with practical exposure to organic formulations used in natural farming.
The training concluded with closing remarks by Bodevi Shuya followed by distribution of certificates to the trainees.
