Centre of Excellence inaugurated at Nagaland University

Centre of Excellence for Foreign Language at Department of Linguistics, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Meriema on September 9.

Addressing the gathering as guest honour, chief secretary Dr. J. Alam expressed gratitude to all those involved in the establishment of the Centre. He extended his appreciation to the Government of Nagaland and the Chief Minister for their vital support and provision of resources.

Dr. Alam emphasized the importance of sustainable funding and hoped that adequate financial arrangements would be included in the regular budget. He praised the ongoing collaborations between Nagaland and Japan and expressed optimism that this partnership would continue to strengthen through the Centre’s achievements.

Highlighting the Centre’s progress, Dr. Alam was pleased to see youth gaining opportunities to work in Japan, which reflects the Centre’s quality and impact. He underscored that such initiatives require commitment, sincerity, and perseverance. He wished for the Centre to maintain its high standards, which would facilitate its growth and the introduction of additional languages in the future.

Pro Vice Chancellor of Kohima Campus, Prof. G.T. Thong discussed the University’s proposal to acquire land for expanding the Centre for Foreign Language Studies. He expressed hopes for the introduction of diploma and degree courses in foreign languages in the near future.
Bur Sanen of ARMS-Incorporation (Japanese Language Training Provider), emphasized the Centre’s role in bridging boundaries and providing employment opportunities.

He highlighted how the Centre enhances youth skills across various fields. IDAN joint secretary Reny Wilfred described the ceremony as a milestone that will open avenues for more productive engagement among the youth. He praised the Centre’s potential to exceed expectations and provide diverse opportunities.

Earlier, in her opening remark, Prof. Pangersenla Walling, HoD, department of Linguistics stated that this centre marks a new chapter of growth, opportunity and development. She briefed on the scopes and the opportunities which the Centre can provide by acknowledging that 5 students through the Centre have found placement in Japan.
