Various organisations have condemned the recent death threat on Prof. Rosemary Dzüvichü through a Facebook post by one WJ (Walu) Longkumer of Dimapur.
NPP: National People’s Party (NPP), Nagaland unit, in a condemnation, said the issuance of a death threat and the use of abusive language were unacceptable and amounted to a direct attack on the values of democracy, dignity, and mutual respect that form the foundation of a healthy society. NPP emphasised that any issues concerning the people, community, or society must be resolved through dialogue and understanding, and that resorting to intimidation, threats, or undemocratic expression undermines social cohesion. Terming the incident a stark reminder of the dangers of unchecked hate and intolerance, NPP urged all right-thinking citizens to denounce such cowardly actions and prevent the normalisation of threats or violence in public life. The party stressed that such acts bring disrepute to Naga society and obstruct its collective pursuit of peace, justice, and development.
NPP demanded immediate action against the perpetrator under the law, ensuring justice, accountability, and deterrence. The party also appealed to residents, civil society, and community leaders to uphold respect, tolerance, and dialogue. It assured full solidarity with Dzüvichü and reaffirmed its commitment to democracy, justice, and equality.
ASU: Angami Students’ Union (ASU) condemned the remarks as a violation of civility and mutual respect. In a statement, ASU urged all right-thinking individuals to denounce such behaviour and called on authorities to take preventive measures.
DMK: Dzüvichünuomiapfü Mechü Krotho, of which Prof. Dzuvichü is a member, expressed shock and described the threat as “barbaric” and “against all moral and human ethics.” The organisation demanded immediate legal action.
LMK: Lhisemiapfü Mechü Krotho (LMK), Kohima Village, expressed outrage that such remarks were made under a banner claiming Christian values. LMK urged stringent action under IPC and IT Act provisions.
DAYO: Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) has strongly condemned the shocking and irresponsible act and described the threat to the life and dignity of a woman, mother, grandmother, and noted academician as intolerable in a civilized society. It urged law enforcement authorities to thoroughly investigate the intent behind the threat and ensure that the law takes its full course without yielding to any pressures. DAYO emphasised that anti-social elements do not represent any tribe or community and urged society to isolate wrongdoers, ensuring accountability and punishment. The organisation further cautioned Ao youth and Naga youths to exercise responsibility and judiciousness in social media use, given its social sensitivity and the existence of stringent cyber laws. DAYO extended solidarity and support to Dr. Dzuvichu and her family during this difficult time. The organisation also lauded the prompt arrest of the accused by Dimapur police and urged the judiciary to deliver exemplary punishment to prevent recurrence of such crimes.
DNSU: Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) termed such acts of intimidation deeply alarming and unacceptable, describing them as a direct attack on the dignity of women and the principles of free expression that underpin any democratic society. DNSU stated that threatening and derogatory actions against women leaders not only undermine their courage and commitment but also weaken the collective fight for justice, equality, and social transformation. The union emphasised that these malicious attempts to silence women leaders are morally wrong, legally punishable, and socially destructive. It urged the state government and concerned authorities to take immediate and decisive action, bringing the perpetrator to justice and ensuring adequate protection for Dr. Dzuvichü and all women activists facing intimidation in the course of their work. DNSU expressed unwavering solidarity with Dr. Dzuvichü and all women leaders working selflessly for the betterment of the Naga people. The Union reaffirmed its commitment to defend the voices of conscience and uphold equality and justice, asserting that attempts to intimidate women leaders will never succeed as long as society stands united against such cowardly acts.
TWUD: Tenyimi Women Union Dimapur (TWUD) described the act as a threat not only to Prof. Dzuvichü but to all women who lead and speak in public spaces. TWUD emphasized that violence and online abuse must never be normalized, stating, “Today, it is Prof. Rosemary Dzuvichü; tomorrow, it could be any woman daring to speak, teach, or lead.” The union reaffirmed its commitment to defending women’s rights and called on authorities and civil society to stand united against intimidation.
NWU: Naga Women’s Union (NWU), through president Priscilla Thiumai and secretary A. Hoibila, termed the threat a grave affront to the dignity of women and called for legal action under IPC sections 503, 506, 507, and 509. NWU also criticized the failure of page administrators to moderate harmful content.
RMA: Rengma Mothers Association (RMA), led by president Margaret Tep and general secretary Elizabeth Kemp, described the post as “vile, violent, and an affront to human dignity.” The association expressed solidarity with Prof. Dzuvichü and appealed to church bodies and citizens to reject hate and intimidation.
Lerie Council: Lerie Council, Lerie Youth Organisation and Lerie Women Organisation termed the act as deplorable, regressive and wholly unacceptable in a society that valued respect and dignity for women. They stated that Nagas had always upheld honour for women and threats of such grave nature had no place in the community. Describing such mentality as dangerous and intolerable, they said it must be condemned by all sections of society without reservation. The organisations further cautioned that issuing threats against individuals who had immensely contributed to the upliftment of society reflected not only intolerance but also a blatant disregard for democratic principles and human values.
Therefore, the council urged the competent authorities to take immediate and stringent action by booking the accused under the fullest extent of the law, so that such acts were not repeated in the future. Further, Lerie Council, Lerie Youth Organisation and Lerie Women Organisation expressed full solidarity with Enoli Rosemary Dzüvichü and all individuals working selflessly for the welfare of society. They also called upon every right-thinking citizen to join in condemning such actions and in upholding justice, dignity and equality.
ZMON: Zeliangrong Mipui Organisation (ZMO-N) while condemning the act, stated that incitement to violence must be uprooted and not allowed to exist in a civilized society, while regretting that such unacceptable and heinous elements continue to persist.
NSA: Naga Scholars’ Association, New Delhi (NSA), has strongly condemned the death threat and derogatory remarks directed at Dr. Rosemary Dzuvichu and said such actions are a direct affront to democratic values, women’s dignity, and the principles of free expression and civic engagement. It noted that the accused, identified as W.J. Longkumer, has been arrested in Dimapur. While welcoming the arrest, NSA emphasized that such threats, abusive trolling, or targeted intimidation in the public sphere are wholly unacceptable. It said online harassment and violent rhetoric endanger individuals and erode the social fabric and democratic discourse. It urged all social media platforms, including groups such as ‘United Nagaland for Christ’ and others, to take responsibility by actively monitoring, removing, and blocking posts or comments that issue threats or incite hatred. Digital spaces must remain forums for constructive dialogue, not platforms for harassment or fear.
NSA called upon the state government, law enforcement agencies, and cyber crime police to pursue the case with urgency and impartiality, ensuring justice and adequate protection for Dr. Dzuvichu and other women leaders. It affirmed full solidarity with Dr. Dzuvichu and NMA, stating that attempts to silence women’s voices through threats and abuse are regressive and will not weaken the resolve to uphold justice, equality, and dignity for all.
JKM: Japfüphiki Krotho Mechü (JKM) called the remarks “deeply disturbing and unacceptable,” and urged civil society and church organisations to uphold respectful dialogue and reject threats against women.
ENSA: Eastern Naga Students’ Association (ENSA) condemned the attack as an assault on democracy and women’s rights. ENSA described Prof. Dzuvichü as a voice of conscience and called for swift action by authorities.
ALTC: Ao Lanur Telongjem Chümoukedima (ALTC) described the threats as a grave attempt to silence women advocating for justice. It called for urgent measures to ensure Prof. Dzuvichü’s safety and reiterated its stand against gender-based violence.
LSM: Lirmen Senso Mungdang (LSM) condemned the post as intolerable and extended full support to Prof. Dzuvichü and her family, calling for unity against hate and abuse.
NPWF: National People’s Women Front (NPWF) described the threat as an affront to democracy and reaffirmed solidarity with Prof. Dzuvichü, urging civil society to uphold dignity and reject intimidation.
DLST: Dimapur Lirmen Senso Telongjem (DLST) termed the remarks cowardly and criminal, highlighting Prof. Dzuvichü’s contributions to education and empowerment. DLST warned that action would be taken under Ao Customary Law for bringing infamy to the community.
ZMON: Zeliangrong Mipui Organisation called upon all right-minded citizens who stand for the rights and dignity of women to come forward and condemn this inhuman act. It further urged the law enforcement authorities and the Government to take the matter seriously and ensure that the culprit is dealt with befittingly as per the law, so that incidents of this nature do not recur in the future.
