CRO condemns, rejects DCCI resolution

Consumer Right Organization (CRO) Nagaland has condemned the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) June 22, 2019 meeting resolution particularly resolution No. 4, which affirmed that “no individual or organization will be allowed to conduct search for expiry of items or MRP inside shops and godowns…”

In a press release, CRO Nagaland president James Jungio and vice president Simon Achumi also reacted to DCCI clarification that the was adopted “in the interest of the consumers and general public”.

In this regard, CRO questioned DCCI as to what benefit or protection the consumer/general public would get by the resolution, which barred the consumer to check expiry, tampered MRP of goods.

Citing the Consumer Protection Act 1986, CRO said that every consumer had the right to get information about the quality and quantity, purity standards and price of goods or services so as to protect himself/herself against the abusive and unfair practices. Besides, it also stated that every consumer had the right to be protected against the marketing of goods and services which are hazardous to life and properties.

CRO said it has, therefore, rejected DCCI resolution in the interest of the consumers and urged the competent authority to direct DCCI to revoke their resolution No.4 for the protection and interest of consumers. The organisation affirmed to stand for the rights of the consumer and continue to protect the consumers from all sorts of malpractices, goods and food adulteration etc.
