The Dimapur Bengali Students’ Union (DBSU) hosted a felicitation-cum-induction programme to honour meritorious students and welcome its newly elected executive members. The event featured Minister for Tourism and Higher Education Temjen Imna Along as chief guest and state BJP president & PDA chairman Benjamin Yepthomi as guest of honour.
In his address, Temjen Imna Along congratulated the students for their academic success and highlighted the vital role of student leadership. He called for peaceful coexistence and collective responsibility in building a stronger Nagaland. Emphasizing inclusivity, he encouraged non-Naga students to assert their educational rights and approach DBSU for support when needed.
Along also announced a certificate of recognition from the Higher Education Department for the Science stream topper and stressed the need to shift from division to unity. On the Inner Line Permit (ILP), he assured that concerns of those settled before 1979 would be addressed through dialogue, while also cautioning about the demographic impact of illegal immigration.
Benjamin Yepthomi commended the students’ achievements, urging them to lead with integrity and develop life skills beyond academics. He reiterated his stand on ILP, stating that it should not affect Indian citizens but must address post-1979 immigration.
The event included felicitation of HSLC/HSSLC rank holders, subject toppers, cultural performances, and speeches from DBSU and community leaders. The programme concluded with a call to youth to uphold values of honesty, hard work, and cultural roots.
