DGAR Lt Gen Chauhan retires

Director General of Assam Rifles (DGAR) Lt Gen Shokin Chauhan retired Saturday after a successful stint of 39 glorious years in the Indian Armed Forces. An alumnus of NDA, DSSC and the prestigious National Defence College, Lt Gen Shokin Chauhan was commissioned into the 11 Gorkha Rifles in December 1979. He took over as the 19th DGAR on December 12, 2016.
A highly decorated officer, among other successful appointments in his career, he also had the unique distinction of handling media relations for the Army in its public information unit.
According to a defence release, Gen Chauhan believed that the Assam Rifles was an elite Force assigned with the dual task of border guarding along the International Indo-Myanmar Border and tackling internal insurgency.
