DIMAPUR: The Dimapur Lotha Students’ Union (DLSU) has extended its full support and solidarity to the stand taken by the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) opposing the proposed relocation of the Government Hindi Institute from Dimapur to Medziphema under Chümoukedima district.
In a press release, the DLSU stated that it firmly believes Dimapur, as the commercial and educational hub of Nagaland, remains the most accessible and suitable location for students from different districts and communities across the state. The union expressed concern that the proposed shifting of the institute would adversely affect many students, particularly those from economically weaker sections, who depend on the facilities and opportunities available in Dimapur.
DLSU also shared the concerns raised by DNSU regarding the rationale behind the proposed relocation. It stated that instead of shifting an important educational institution, the government should focus on protecting, improving, and strengthening the existing infrastructure for the welfare of students and the public.
According to the union, educational institutions established in Dimapur have served generations of students from across Nagaland, and any move to systematically relocate such institutions elsewhere may create unnecessary hardship and imbalance in educational accessibility. The union appealed to the concerned authorities to reconsider the proposal and adopt a student-friendly, inclusive, and balanced approach in the interest of equitable educational development. DLSU further assured its support for any democratic and constructive initiative undertaken to safeguard students’ rights and educational interests.
