DIMAPUR, MAY 27 (NPN): Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has strongly opposed the proposed shifting of the government hindi institute from Oriental Colony, Dimapur to the In-Service Teacher Training Institute at Medziphema.
In a press release, DNSU president Hinoto P. Aomi and secretary education Kevin Gonmei said the move reflected a lack of sensitivity towards students who rely on Dimapur as the primary educational hub in Nagaland.
The union pointed out that the institute, established in 1968, has served students across the state for decades.
DNSU argued that Dimapur offered better connectivity, accommodation, and overall facilities compared to Medziphema, adding that shifting the institute would particularly affect students from economically weaker sections.
Further, the union questioned the justification of lack of space, stating that after physical verification, the existing campus, despite instances of illegal encroachment, still has sufficient land for effective functioning.
The union said the government should focus on removing encroachments and optimizing the current campus rather than relocating the institute.
“Dimapur cannot be systematically stripped of its institutions while new infrastructure is developed elsewhere,” DNSU stated.
Therefore, the union has urged the state government to reconsider the proposal and adopt a balanced inclusive and student-centric approach. DNSU has cautioned that failure to address the concern would compel the union to take democratic measures to protect student rights and equitable development.
