Dr. Shürhozelie justifies stand

Unfazed by the complaint lodged by PDA alliance partners against him with the ECI, the NPF president, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, on Saturday justified his stand, saying he was defending Article 25 of the Constitution of India, which safeguards freedom of religion.
He said lodging complaint against him was “a sign of desperateness” on the part of BJP and NDPP.
According to NPF central press bureau, the party president said freedom of religion was there in Nagaland for everyone including Hindus and Muslims. However, he said that freedom was no more in some of the BJP-ruled states.
Addressing party workers at his residential office Saturday morning, the NPF president pointed out that atrocities committed against the Christians rose from 177 incidents in 2015 to 351 in 2017.
Referring to NDPP and BJP complaint that his speech could result in violent clashes and street fights, the NPF president said it clearly indicated their intention to create problems. In this regard, he warned the party members to remain alert.
