Extra-curricular activities for students, faculty

Various programmes and activities for students and teachers were organised by educational institutions and other organisations as part of their yearly curriculum and extra-curricular activities.
Assam Rifles: An inter college debate competition on the tropic, “Disparate Naga Tribal Identities are Antithesis to Naga Unity, and thus, a hindrance in social upliftment and economic development of Nagaland”, was organised by the Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) at Assam Rifles Camp in Kohima, Tuesday.
According to PRO Defence, a panel of five judges comprising Deputy Inspector General of IGAR (North), Brig Ved Beniwal, Dr Mimi Kevichusa Ezung, Rita Krocha, Okenjeet Sandham, H Chishi judged the participants from nine colleges on their content, clarity of thoughts, oratory skills and confidence.
Chief guest of the programme, Major General VikasLakhera, Sena Medal, IGAR (North) addressed the audience and motivated the audience to think beyond individual identities.
In an opening remark, Brigadier Herjinder Singh exhorted the students to speak their mind in an unbiased manner and to also accept the diversity of opinion.
Based on the decision of the jury, in individual category, the first prize was won by Kenlumle of St Joseph’s College, second prize was bagged by Ricky Das of Modern College and third prize was won by KitokaliYeptho of Sazolie College. Sinsi Khing of St Joseph’s College and KonnyeiKonyak of Model Christian were awarded consolation prizes for their appreciable performances.
In the positions of Colleges, St Joseph’s College, Sazolie College, Model Christian College won first, second and third positions respectively.
Pfutsero: A demonstration programme on fire extinguishers was organised for students by the officer-in-charge of fire and emergency services Pfutsero, Kevizelhou Chupuo and team at Sports Complex Ground Pfutsero on Tuesday.
Hundreds of students from Nazareth School, Government Higher Secondary School and Baptist Mission School took part in the programme. The gathering was exhorted by Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC), Ketsinle Tep. The programme was also attended by Town Council members, public leaders, dobashis, among others.
BHS Tening: Baptist High School Tening organised a mock drill on earthquake Tuesday at the School premises with Home Guards and Civil Defence State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA). The 14-member team was headed by DPA, DDMA, Kedigong and ASI, Angukato K. Teptho. The students and faculty participated in activities like bandaging, CPR, EMR, splinting and mock drill on earthquake. The programme concluded with with demonstration from the students.
NPC: The Literature Club of Norman Putsure College held its first Author Meet and Greet event with Elongshila Jamir, the author of “Serendipity” on April 17, wherein the Jamir dicussed her book and hoped that it would inspire others to start “their own journey of serendipity”. The event was hosted by Kevisekhono Whiso, followed by Poetry reading by Velü D Vadeo.
SJU: Department of Zoology of St. Joseph University on April 17 conducted a guest lecture, wherein Assistant Professor, PG and Research Department Zoology, B. Borooah College, Guwahati, Assam, Dr. Amar Deep Soren spoke on the topic “Anthelmintic Drug Research”. The college said the purpose of the guest lecture was to enhance the student knowledge in the field of antiphrastic drug research.
SSC: Sao Chang College, Tuensang conducted its 47th annual cultural day on April 14 at the College Campus under the theme, “Reigniting the spirit of Unity Through Culture” with Head GB, Tuensang Headquarters, H. Khuni Chang as the guest speaker.
