Fire destroys shops in Shokhuvi bazaar

A major fire broke out on June 3, at Shokhuvi bazaar near ARTC & S morning around 3 a.m destroying properties worth Rs. 24 lakhs, burning down five shops including pharmacy with medical stocks, bicycle repair shop and two general shop belonging to GB Vekhito Swu.
A press note by Shokhuvi Village Council (SVC) chairman, Akhihito P. Zhimo and secretary Khenito Swu, stated the cause of the fire was unknown and that the inferno was ultimately doused down with the help of Assam Rifles from ARTC & S Shokuvi providing water tankers.
It stated that more than hundred personnel of men force along with public of the area contained the inferno.
The fire was brought under control after two hours and that the matter was reported to Chumukedima EAC who along with his two dobashis visited the area.
SVC further informed the general public to be alert and be careful in order to avoid such incident.
