A health awareness camp was organised on October 14 at PM Shri Government High School, Yangphi, by Nature, the implementing agency of SBI Sanjeevani – Clinic on Wheels. The programme aimed to promote healthy living habits and raise awareness among students on the harmful effects of tobacco use and the importance of personal hygiene.
Delivering a talk on the theme “Say No to Tobacco”, Dr. P. Kumaresan highlighted the dangers of tobacco consumption and its long-term impact on health. He urged students to make a firm commitment to avoid tobacco in all forms. Key areas covered included addiction, resisting peer pressure, damage to vital organs, oral health deterioration, links to cancer, and reduced productivity.
The session also featured a practical demonstration by Kharila Sangtam on the “Eight Steps of Hand Washing”, emphasizing proper hygiene practices to prevent illness. Students were guided through each step, concluding with the assurance that “your hands are safe.”
Assistant headmaster Lipiri Anar expressed gratitude to the SBI Sanjeevani team and Nature for conducting the timely and informative session.
He noted the importance of such awareness programmes in shaping healthy choices among youth.
Longtili C. Sangtam, Project Lead (Nagaland) for SBI Sanjeevani – Clinic on Wheels, thanked the school authorities, teachers, and students for their active participation and encouraged students to become ambassadors of health in their communities.
The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, where students enthusiastically engaged with the resource persons. The camp proved to be a meaningful initiative in promoting preventive healthcare and wellness among the youth of Kiphire.
