Minister of Higher Education and Tourism, Temjen Imna Along, called upon the students to embrace unity and cooperation for a stronger Nagaland while discouraging tribalism and negativity among youth. He was speaking at the 58th Freshers’ Meet of Dimapur Government College (DGC), organised by the Dimapur Government College Students’ Council (DGCSC), held at the college auditorium on August 22.
In his address, the minister emphasized that there are no shortcuts to success and urged students to work hard, remain resilient, and support one another. He advised them to stay humble and assured that equal importance would be given to Science, Humanities, and Commerce streams.
Announcing that DGC would be developed as a Skill Hub, he assured transparency in student scholarships.
He also proposed an inter-college music competition to be held early next year to promote musical talent among the student community. He also assured that air conditioners would be installed in classrooms in the coming years.
Earlier, principal Dr. T. Tiakaba Jamir, in his welcome address, highlighted the college’s progress, including the introduction of the science stream and commendable academic performance. He congratulated Mutsoi Kham, who topped in MA Education under Nagaland University, and was felicitated with a citation and cash award.
The formal session was hosted by Arina Yaden and Kehika Yeptho, and included a speech on behalf of the freshers by I. Joilem Konyak. The programme concluded with the traditional round, where sixteen participants showcased their cultural attire and competed for the titles of Mr & Miss Freshers.
The event was attended by faculty, staff, students, and representatives from various colleges including St. John College, Immanuel College, MGM College, Salt Christian College, Patkai Christian College, Eastern Christian College, Pranab College, Cornerstone College, SD Jain College, Sakus Mission College, Public College, and Livingstone College.
