Inauguration of dialysis unit at DH Zunheboto

DIMAPUR

A new dialysis unit at Hezukhu Memorial District Hospital, Zunheboto, sponsored by Indian Oil Aarogyam, was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto, Dharam Raj on June 4.
In his speech, Dharam Raj thanked the Department of Health and Family Welfare and the hospital for their efforts in establishing the dialysis unit. He noted the increasing cases of cancer and kidney-related diseases, calling the new unit a major milestone in public healthcare. He emphasized how the facility will ease the treatment burden and reduce costs for patients, urging stakeholders and community leaders to support and sustain the service as a beacon of hope.
Medical Superintendent Zunheboto, Dr. S. Kuotsutho, stated that the dialysis unit will be managed by trained technicians, nurses, and doctors under the supervision of specialist physicians to ensure high-quality care. He highlighted that the initiative expands essential health services and reinforces the commitment to accessible, quality healthcare for the district.
The program was chaired by SMO, District Hospital, Dr. K. Shikato Sema, who pointed out that chronic kidney failure—often caused by uncontrolled hypertension and diabetes—is a growing concern in the region. He noted that many patients had to travel outside the district for dialysis, leading to financial and emotional strain. With the new facility, treatment will now be available locally, reducing costs and enabling timely care.
The event was attended by civil society organizations, Sumi Totimi Hoho, town councillors, hospital staff, and officials from the CMO office. Senior Specialist at District Hospital, Dr. K. Akaho Sema, delivered the vote of thanks, while Pastor Kughavi V Chishi of NCRC Sumi, Zunheboto, led a dedicatory prayer.
