Cyber Crime Police Station, PHQ arrested one person from Kohima for child pornography on May 18. In a press note, DIG (CID) informed that the accused was part of Rooms/Groups in “Wickr app” where child pornography was shared/posted amongst the members.
DIG said the case was referred to Nagaland police by Interpol, Stockholm through CBI International Police Co-operation Unit (IPCU).
In this regard, police have reiterated that publishing or transmitting obscene or sexually explicit material in electronic form was a criminal offence.
Though Wickr app, Whatsapp etc, provides end to end encryption, police said they could gain access and detect criminal activities. Therefore, police requested all to report such matter for legal action.
