IPM training at Thekrejuma village for sustainable paddy cultivation

Dimapur

A two-day Human Resource Development (HRD) programme on “Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in paddy for sustainable agriculture through AESA approach” was conducted at Thekrejuma village on October 16 and 17, 2025. The training was organised by the Central Integrated Pest Management Centre (CIPMC), Dimapur, with the objective of equipping farmers, agricultural workers, and rural youth with scientific knowledge and practical skills in sustainable pest management.
According to a press release from CIPMC, the sessions were facilitated by experts from the state agriculture department and entomology specialists, who provided insights into pest identification, use of the NPSS mobile app, eco-friendly control measures, and safe pesticide storage practices.
Participants were introduced to the principles of IPM, pest and disease diagnosis in rice, and the importance of pest surveillance. Demonstrations on pest traps and identification of natural enemies were conducted in nearby rice fields. A session on Agro Eco System Analysis (AESA) was also held with active farmer participation.
The training included hands-on sessions on bio-pesticide preparation and application, seed treatment methods, and cultural practices to reduce pest incidence. Resource persons highlighted the economic and environmental advantages of IPM over conventional pest control methods.
The training was conducted by PPO Dr. Shashidhara GC; APPOs Dr. Sable Mangesh Gajanan, Imlirenla Longkumer, and Kiachang; and Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer and Lecturer, IETC, Dr. Vizokhonyu Yhome.
Over 55 participants from the local farming community attended the programme, which concluded with an interactive feedback session and distribution of literature to encourage continued adoption of IPM practices.
