KBA organises lecture on ‘art of drafting’

In continuation of its lecture series, Kohima Bar Association (KBA) organised its 2nd lecture on the topic, “Art of Drafting: Emphasis on Suits and Writs” on July 28 at the Conference Hall of Kohima District Planning and Development Board (DPDB).

A press release by KBA stated that the lecture series were organised with the objective of guiding the upcoming advocates. The lecture was delivered by advocate and former senior additional advocate general, Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, T.B. Jamir.

KBA said the lecture dwelt on the importance of precise, simple and thorough drafting of pleadings, which forms the foundation for deciding a case. It highlighted the differences in pleadings occurring in suits and writs, and how it was important not to muddle up the two. Elaborately dealing with the form, structure and presentation of pleadings, KBA said the lecture emphasised on the importance of thoroughly discerning the facts, issues and the laws involved in a case before an advocate begins to draft his/her case.

The lecture also impressed upon the advocates the need to constantly hone their writing skills and to specifically avoid grammatical errors while drafting pleadings.
During the lecture, KBA said the advocates were also highlighted on the importance of presenting full and correct facts, by underscoring that a court should never be misled through non-disclosure or improper disclosure of facts by the clients, and that it was the duty of advocates to ascertain all facts from his/her client, as much as possible.
