Expressing resentment over the frequent agitation carried out by teachers, the Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) has urged the department to resolve the issue at the earliest.
In a press release, KSU education secretary, Abo Wangsu, lamented the system of education and questioned why has the agitation become a “daily routine”, which ultimately victimised the students. Stating that the students were tired of blame game, the union asked who was to be held responsible –the department or the teachers? KSU also queried what compelled the teaching community to attend the agitation rather than their normal duties.
Asserting that education department should have been one of the most active departments, the union, however, expressed dismay that the education department “usually take wrong turn.” Further, KSU stated that agitation adversely affected the performance of schools especially in Mon district, which it said has the lowest literacy rate as compared to other districts. In the recently declared HSLC examinations result, the union said there were many schools from Mon district which that recorded zero percentage result. KSU said this was the outcome of non-stationary of teachers and regular participation of teachers in agitation. In the light of the above, the union has appealed to the department to resolve the issue at the earliest so as to allow teachers to return to their respective posting places.
