Strongly condemning the firing at ITC Dan (Pangsha), which occurred in the wee hours of March 9, 2021, Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) Wednesday maintained that the incident came at a time when Nagas were hoping and yearning for peace and harmony among different sections of society and groups. In a press note, KTC general secretary NSM Pakhiu stated that the frequent firing incidents at ITC Dan have created a fear psychosis in the mind of innocent public. “Taking the advantage of border, remote and backward region, the insurgents group used to create a battlefield in the region constantly,” KTC stated.
KTC alleged that the “insurgents group always keep the citizens in fear and disrupt the sanctity of peace.”
KTC asserted that the final and peaceful solution to the Naga issue was around the corner and that the people of the region were not having peace of mind due to constant firing between the insurgents and security forces at ITC Dan. It said that the people of the region have experienced enough of bloodshed and firing incidents.
The apex Khiamniungan tribal body maintained that ITC at Dan was established with a vision that a place would “become a commercial hub between the two countries (India and Myanmar) but not for battlefield”.
KTC has, therefore, appealed to both the insurgents and paramilitary force to shun violence at ITC Dan. It also appealed to the state government to immediately set up border magistrate post at Dan.
