Mass social work conducted across Nagaland

To commemorate the 152nd birth anniversary of the father of the nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, various state government departments, educational institutions and civil society organisations (CSOs) Saturday organised mass social work, cleanliness drives and other activities across the state coinciding with “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” (AKAM).

DMC: Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) observed “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” by conducting various activities.

The activities included cleanliness drive & felicitation of sanitation workers which was held here at DMC office on Saturday. More than 170 sanitation workers were felicitated including rack pickers and waste entrepreneurs were acknowledged with certificates of appreciation. Three sanitation workers Darma Rao, Betol Chishi and Gandhi Doom were awarded with the “best sanitation worker”. 

The awards and certificates were presented by DMC former advisor, Mahesh Agarwal. Declaration of confirmation of DMC urban local body of the same was also awarded to DMC, AKAM nodal officer Sariyongba B Longkumer.

The activities also include waste art and photography competition under the theme “justice to environment”. The photography competition is organised in collaboration with Achano photography studio. Last date of submission of waste art and photography would be October 9, while the results would be declared on October 11. (Staff Reporter)

PHED Dimapur: In commemoration of Gandhi Jayanti, District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Dimapur in collaboration with ISA (Act of Kindness) organised nationwide Gram Sabha and Samved with Watsan Committees on Jal Jeevan Mission at Medziphema Village Council Hall.

According to DIPR report, secretary PHED Kesonyu Yhome asked the villagers to avail the services under Jal Jeevan Mission e and set examples for other to emulate.

RD Kohima: Department of Rural Development Saturday launched People’s Plan Campaign on Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) at RD Conference Hall, Kohima.

A press release by the department stated that commissioner and secretary RD, Neposo Theluo also flagged off six waste disposal vehicles (Kohima Sadar Phase III) funded under SPMRM.

In his address, Theluo said it was befitting to launch the campaign on Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary because he believed power should be given to the village bodies and gram panchayats.

Director, RD, Liboni Humtsoe said October 2 was an important day for the department and expressed hope that people’s plan campaign would be an effective strategy for ensuring the preparation of GPDP in a campaign mode. Plogging run in Kma: A plogging run with volunteers from NYV, NSS and BS&G was held were plastic waste and disposal were also collected in the vicinity of Kohima town. Meanwhile, a mass social work was conducted at government institutions/offices/colonies/wards/villages under Kohima district. 

Kiphire: NYK Kiphire organised plogging run and cleanliness drive at Kiphire from traffic point to local ground. The programme was supported by district administration Kiphire.

DC Kiphire T. Wati Aier urged the youth and volunteers to work out together while carrying out the assigned duties till October 31. District youth coordinator, Kiphire Muletolu Vero urged all the participants to observe the programme with mind and eyes set on keeping the district neat and clean.

Pfutsero: Special cleanliness drive was held at Pfutsero town, with special focus on cleaning compounds and surrounding areas, roadsides, clogged drains. The government departments also participated by cleaning their respective office premises. The judges of cleanest ward of Pfutsero Town for the year 2021 would visit all the wards for assessment.

Mirchi bima: Mass social work was conducted at Mirchi Bima subdivision. All heads of department colony village authorities, NGO, schools, 7 Assam Rifles, MT Youth Organisation, students of Living stone higher secondary school from Dimapur and public activity participated in the mass social work.

PTC: Additional deputy commissioner and administrator of Peren Town Council (PTC), K. Mhathung Tsanglao graced “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM)” culmination cum felicitation programme as the special guest at Peren Town Hall. Sanitary workers, rag pickers and waste entrepreneurs received certificates of appreciation and cash awards during the event.

Tseminyu: Tseminyu town council and district administration, led by additional deputy commissioner, Tseminyu, Manpai Phom conducted waste segregation day. Highlights of the activities included ward level review of solid waste management plan with special focus on waste segregation, proper implementation of individual household home composting for segregation of wet/bio-degradable waste, ward level cleanliness drive. Tseminyu town council, district administration and other officials visited all nine wards and interacted with ward sanitation committee and GBs.

LTC: Longleng Town Council concluded the weeklong Azadi ka amrit mahotsav Saturday with the facilitation of sanitation workers and organised mass social work to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti. Speaking on the occasion, nodal officer (AKAM) and extra assistant commissioner headquarters, Roukuosetuo Tetso thanked all the participants including the ward leaders for their proactive response and coordination enabling various activities to be carried out.

NSLSA: Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority organised essay competition, walkathon and seminar with legal literacy clubs (LLCs) with District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) as part of launching the month-long “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav- Celebrating 75 years of India’s Independence” and legal services week “Pan India awareness and outreach programme”. Winners were awarded with certificates and cash prizes.

Tuensang DLSA conducted an online essay competition on the topic “sex education among the school students” with 38 students from 8 LLCs. Wokha DLSA also conducted an essay competition on “right to education” with 14 LLC members. Longleng DLSA held walkathon from district court to Lempong junction where students from LLC along with the teacher in charges participated and distributed legal pamphlets. Zunheboto DLSA conducted essay competition. Dimapur DLSA also conducted online essay competition for all 10 LLCs schools on the topic “Your favourite freedom fighter”. Kiphire DLSA organised essay competition with GHS Amahator LLC on the topic “fundamental duties” with 10 LLC members. Mon DLSA organised essay competition on “relevance of Gandhian principles in Indian constitution” with inter schools, Mon town.

Phek DLSA organised walkathon at Phek Town from Town heart Phek with 30 students along with teacher in charges. Peren DLSA organised marathon race from zero point Jalukie Town with 25 students. Kohima DLSA also organised walkathon from Old MLA Hostel junction Kohima till TT stadium with 60 people. 

Mokokchung DLSA conducted cleanliness drive with volunteers from Mokokchung DLSA panel lawyers, PLVs, youths from Greening thoughts, Artang, Zila Sanik ex-servicemen, NYKS and students from Mokokchung Law College.

NPCC: Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) celebrated the day at Dimapur district congress committee office. The programme was jointly organised by Minority department and Dimapur DCC. Speaking at the programme, president NSUI Nagaland X Chophika Sumi highlighted the contribution of Gandhi and the Congress in the freedom struggle.

Chairman, Nagaland Pradesh Congress minority department Rajesh Sethi also spoke on the occasion and encouraged the party worker to change first in order to bring transformation in the society. 

Minority morcha BJP: Minority Morcha BJP Nagaland observed the day at house of friendship (old age home), Dimapur where gifts were presented by the morcha. Director of the old age home, Akokla Lucy Pongen conducted an introductory session under the chairmanship of state executive member Arijit Sharma. Rev. Joseph Bech said the invocation, Vijay Sharma, SEM delivered welcome address. Short speech was delivered by Dr. D. K. Sharma, SEM and vote of thanks by SEM Deepak Deb.

Earlier, state secretary Sanjay Dey along with some of the minority morcha members conducted cleanliness drive at church tower, Midland, Dimapur.

PVHSS: Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur observed Gandhi Jayanti Divas and Swachh Bharat Mission Saturday at the school premises. PVHSS principal, Monoj Bhattacharjee spoke on the importance of cleanliness. A mass cleanliness drive was also carried out by both teaching and non-teaching staff.

MGM College: MGM College celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with special meeting at the seminar hall where assistant professor Fuchumo Yanthan spoke about the life and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi. A mass cleanliness drive was also was conducted as a part of the culmination of Swachhta Hi Sewa campaign.

LCD & LC: On the occasion of Gandhi jayanti, Lions Club of Dimapur Japfu & Leo Club of St. Marys carried out cleanliness drive and also explained the importance of Gandhi Jayanti to the children.
