DIMAPUR: Condemnations continued to pour in from a wide spectrum of civil society organisations (CSOs) against the alleged sexual assault of a 14 year old minor girl in Dimapur, reportedly perpetrated by O. Watimeren Jamir and his accomplice(s). Organisations described the incident as a grave crime and an affront to the dignity and safety of children, demanding strict legal action and justice under the law.
NMA: Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) strongly condemned the assault and demanded thorough investigation and punishment as per law. NMA also called for proper inquiry into all persons allegedly involved to ensure justice prevailed. Extending full support to the victim and family, NMA reiterated the minor’s right to privacy and urged the state government to prioritise her safety, rehabilitation and counselling.
WM: Watsü Mungdang (WM) expressed deep concern over the disturbing nature of the case. Referring to the arrest of the second accused, Tsuktimongba, son of late Supongmeren of Sungratsü village, in addition to the earlier arrest of O. Watimeren Jamir, son of late Opangtiba of Unger village, WM demanded a thorough, impartial and time bound investigation to ensure all persons involved are brought to justice. “Crimes against children are an attack on the very fabric of society and cannot be tolerated under any circumstance”, it stated, and expressed solidarity with the victim and her family. It also called upon all sections of society to unite in protecting the rights, dignity and safety of every child, noting that it would continue to closely follow progress of the case and demand complete justice.
WSTH: Western Sümi Totimi Hoho (WSTH) strongly condemned the horrific assault, noting that such acts tarnish the image of Naga society where women are respected. It demanded the strictest punishment for the accused. “No child should ever face such horror. This incident must serve as a catalyst for stronger child protection measures across Nagaland”, the Hoho stated, and called upon communities, student bodies, Churches, civil society organisations and leaders to unite against child sexual abuse and foster a culture of zero tolerance.
CWO: Chakhroma Women Organization (CWO) termed the assault as heinous, barbaric and gruesome, describing the alleged accused as “monstrous, despicable and savage.” Appreciating the authorities for swift action in arresting the culprit, CWO appealed that no leniency be granted in the judicial process. It further expressed solidarity with the victim’s family and assured continued support until justice is delivered.
DLEK: Dimapur Lotha Eloe Ekhung (DLEK) voiced concern over rising crimes against women and minors, asserting that silence emboldens perpetrators. It reaffirmed commitment to stand against abuse and exploitation, urging law enforcement to conduct fair investigation and book the accused under relevant provisions, including the POCSO Act.
TWUD: Tenyiimi Women’s Union Dimapur (TWUD) expressed deep outrage, calling the incident a heinous crime against children and society. It urged law enforcement to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, while appealing for unity against sexual violence and exploitation.
DLYO: Dimapur Lotha Youth Organisation (DLYO) described the act as “inhuman, shameful and barbaric,” and demanded stringent legal action under the POCSO Act. It appealed to civil society groups and the public to stand united against such crimes.
DSST: Dimapur Sungratsu Senso Telongjem (DSST) termed the assault an inhuman act unacceptable in a civilised society. It urged authorities to conduct a swift, transparent investigation and award befitting punishment, while expressing solidarity with the victim and family.
ENPS: Eastern Naga Parents’ Body Shillong (ENPS) termed the act “brutal and inhuman,” a grave affront to human dignity and moral conscience. It demanded immediate, impartial investigation and prosecution under the POCSO Act, with maximum penalty if found guilty.
ENPUM: Eastern Nagaland People’s Union Mokokchung (ENPUM) expressed sympathy and solidarity with the survivor and family, urging authorities to deliver justice without delay. It reaffirmed commitment to protect the rights and dignity of women and children.
IHRC NSC: International Human Rights Council – Nagaland State Chapter (IHRC NSC) appealed for fast track handling of the case, urging authorities to act transparently and deliver justice swiftly. It appreciated Dimapur Police for arresting the second accused and the local court for denying anticipatory bail to the main accused.
KSU: Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU) expressed solidarity with the victim and family, stressing that minors deserve protection and justice. It extended support to Chang Union Dimapur and Chang Students’ Union Dimapur for their firm stand, and urged authorities to ensure justice without delay.
KMHD: Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam Dimapur (KMHD) extended unconditional solidarity, calling for swift accountability and uncompromising justice.
PNNM Kohima: Poumai Naga Naotoumai Me (PNNM) Kohima condemned the “inhuman and barbaric act,” terming it a grave violation of dignity and rights. It urged befitting punishment under law.
TUD: Tikhir Union Dimapur (TUD) described the assault as a direct attack on a child’s dignity and fundamental rights, demanding strong action against the accused without compromise.
WYLA: Western Yimkhiung Liberü Arihako (WYLA) expressed outrage, condemning the act as heinous and demanding strict penalties under law. It appealed for fast track investigation and swift justice.
SUD: Sangtam Union Dimapur (SUD) termed the assault a horrifying violation of human rights and protection of children, urging immediate strict action against perpetrators.
DPU, PHD: Dimapur Phom Union (DPU) and Phomla Hoichem Dimapur (PHD) jointly condemned the “nefarious and inhuman act,” appealing authorities to deny leniency or bail and ensure justice under POCSO Act.
DNYO: Diphupar Naga Youth Organisation (DNYO) has termed the incident as inhuman, disgraceful and intolerable in any society and welcomed the swift action of law enforcement agencies in arresting the accused.
It urged the judiciary to handle the case under the POCSO Act and apply relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including those dealing with sexual assault, criminal conspiracy and abetment. The organisation demanded strict punishment to ensure such crimes are not repeated. Standing firmly with the victim and her family, DNYO called upon schools, churches, youth and the community to remain vigilant and strengthen child protection measures. DNYO further said it would continue to raise its voice whenever the dignity, safety and rights of women and children are threatened.
ASTTT: Ao Senso Telongjem Tuensang Town (ASTTT) and Ao Senso Telongjem 3rd NAP Saksi, Tuensang have described the act as inhuman and unacceptable, stressing that children deserve safety, protection and respect. Expressing solidarity with the victim and her family, ASTTT urged authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and deliver justice under all relevant laws. The unions further called for full medical and emotional support for the victim, complete and honest investigation, accountability of the accused under law, and protection of the victim’s dignity throughout the judicial process. They reaffirmed their commitment to stand with the victim and family, and to uphold the dignity and rights of children.
CAKSU: Chakhro Angami Kuda Students’ Union (CAKSU) has expressed outrage over the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl, terming it a grave crime and moral violation. In a press release, CAKSU demanded strict punishment under the POCSO Act and called for swift and transparent justice. The union emphasized solidarity with the victim and her family, while urging schools, churches and communities to strengthen safeguards and raise awareness to protect children.
YAA: Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA) has strongly condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl and termed the act deplorable, inhumane and unacceptable, stressing that offences against children cannot be excused or ignored. The organisation called for justice to be administered transparently and without delay.
