Educational institutions across the state, as part of its educational co-curricular activities, carried out various programmes.
Dimapur Government College: Skill Development Committee (SDC) of Dimapur Government College (DGC) organised certificate distribution programme for the two-month “Beauty and Wellness Course”, on October 28. The course was funded by Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Nagaland, under its initiative to promote vocational learning and employability among students.
A press release by DGC stated that Hukali Avito Swu, Educator of Beautician Crash Course, congratulated students on successfully completing the course and highlighted the importance of self-employment and practical skill training in today’s competitive world.
Speaking on behalf of the trainees, Likusa, a BA first Semester student thanked the college administration and educator for their invaluable guidance and described the course as a transformative experience that had been both educational and empowering.
The release added that associate professor, department of English and convener of the Skill Development Committee, Dr. Maongkala Longchar, delivered the keynote address reflecting on the success of the programme.
She extended gratitude to the Directorate of Higher Education, for its continued support in promoting skill enhancement programmes.
She also emphasized the importance of integrating beauty and wellness practices with emotional and mental well-being, noting that techniques such as skincare, body relaxation, and mindfulness not only enhance physical appearance but also contribute to mental health, stress reduction, and self-expression.
Dr. Longchar further underscored the growing opportunities in beauty and wellness industry, encouraging students to apply their newly acquired skills toward meaningful employment and entrepreneurship.
The release added that certificates were awarded to 50 trainees who successfully completed the course, fulfilling one of the key objectives of the college, to equip every graduate with a vocational or skill-based certification alongside academic qualifications.
Fazl Ali College: Eco Club of Fazl Ali College (FAC), sponsored by Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized a Santa’s Workshop – 6th Edition, on October 28, at the college auditorium, under the theme “Creating Joy the Green Way”.
A press release by FAC stated that delivering the introductory note, Convenor, Eco Club, Dr. Temjensangla Pongener, spoke on the vision and purpose of the club in promoting environmental awareness tied to the SDGs. She also welcomed the Eco Club alumni from various batches who came to share their skills, highlighting how the club had continued to grow as a community even beyond the college.
One of the alumni, Chubatola, shared her personal journey in the club and the valuable lessons she learned, urging the juniors to carry the legacy forward.
The release added that the workshop then moved into its main activities, divided into three creative learning stations, Waste to Wonder Craft Station, Green Gift Wrapping Booth, and Eco-friendly Christmas Décor, each offering hands-on experiences in crafting and creating sustainable festive items.
These stations were further divided into subcategories such as making Christmas ornaments, snowflakes, wreaths, gift bags and intricate crochets out of recycled items, allowing participants to explore innovative ideas and techniques using eco-friendly materials.
Immanuel College: Immanuel College’s Red Ribbon Club in collaboration with NSS and Art and Drama Club, conducted awareness programme on HIV/AIDS under the theme “Breaking Stigma, Embracing Humanity” on October 29, at the College Auditorium, with resource person as counselor of BYWC, Citybarn, The Health Centre Dimapur, Mhalelhou Albert Yhome.
A press release by the College stated that Yhome in his address said that the theme carries deep message, reminding that how we treat others defines who we are as individuals and as a community.
He highlighted that Nagaland has the second highest HIV prevalence rate in the country after Mizoram, and stressed that the choices one make- to protect ourselves, to get tested, and to educate others, can significantly influence both our personal well-being and future of our society.
The speaker further pointed out that one of the biggest challenges in the fight against HIV was not the virus itself, but the stigma surrounding it.
He noted that many people associate HIV with moral failure and shame, leading to judgment, isolation, and discrimination, sometimes even from their own families. “Such attitudes discourage people from getting tested, allowing the virus to spread further in the community”, he stated.
He further said that education is the key, adding that equipping ourselves with right knowledge and spreading awareness can remove fear and discrimination.
He explained that HIV is a virus which attacks the immune system, particularly the CD4 cells, a type of white blood cells that help defend our body from infections. He however said that proper medication, balance diet, and care can help people living with HIV live a long and healthy life.
The release added that the event was chaired by Japhet and welcome address delivered by convener, RRC, Ngipsho M Konyak.
Little Flower Hr. Sec School: Science exhibition 2025 of Little Flower Higher Secondary School (LFHSS), Kohima was inaugurated on the October 28, at the school playground, under the theme “Science, Technology and Innovation for a Sustainable Development”, with Principal Secretary, Geology and Mining, Science and Technology, Himato Zhimomi, as the Special Guest.
A press release by LFHSS stated that Zhimomi in his speech shared nostalgic moment of being a student of the school in 1973. He encouraged students to nurture spirit of curiosity and enquiry, and to continue to learn, seek, and innovate for a better future.
Principal, Sister Lucy Thomas, in her address emphasized that the exhibition was not merely a display of models but a true symbol of creativity and innovation.
Following the inaugural programme, the special guest visited the exhibition stalls and interacted with the students.
The exhibits featured wide range of working and non-working models on topics such as renewable energy, robotics, human anatomy, and environment conservation. Each models reflected student’s curiosity and understanding of the scientific principles.
The release added that parents and visitors also attended the exhibition to observe and appreciate the efforts of the students.
The judges for the event were Kekuneil Henry Ltu, scientist ‘C’ Nagaland Science and Technological Council Department of Science and Technology, and professor, Mathematics, Education and Research Methodology Nagaland University, Dr M. Rajendra Nath Babu, who inspected the exhibits, and interacted with participants and offered constructive feedback.
St Joseph University: The 4th edition of Pol Fiesta 2025, organized by Political Science Association (PSA) Department of Political Science, St. Joseph University, was held on October 28, at University Auditorium, on the theme “Inking Ideas, Inspiring Change”.
A press release by SJU stated that Deputy Registrar, SJU, Rev. Sr. Dr. Thianes Mary, was the special guest for the event. Speaking on the theme, she encouraged students to believe in the power of their ideas as ideas were like seeds, words, and actions to bring about transformation in the society.
The inaugural session featured Mobile Film Making competition where students made short clip on various issues confronting Naga society, such as alcohol, bullying and other social issues, whilst in the second session, students competed for various events such as quiz, singing, extempore speech, mimicry, waste recycling fashion show and retro dance.
The fest also witnessed sports event such as javelin, penalty shoot-out, 400-meter race and 4X100 relay.
UG 5th semester Political Science department emerged as the overall champion of the 4th edition of the Pol Fiesta 2025.
Pranab College: Department of Commerce, Pranab College, in collaboration with the IQAC, organized First Inter-Higher Secondary School Quiz Competition on October 30.
A press release by the College stated that a total of five schools participated in the event, including St. Mary Higher Secondary School, Livingstone International, Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Carmel Higher Secondary School, and Ram Janaki Higher Secondary School.
The release added that Pranab Vidyapith Hr. Sec. School and Carmel Hr. Sec. School bagged the first and second prize respectively, whilst adding that all participants were given participation certificate.
