DIMAPUR, NOV 5 (NPN)

Slams misleading TV report for using old data

The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has expressed satisfaction and appreciation over the notable progress Nagaland has achieved under the leadership of chief minister Neiphiu Rio, as reflected in the NITI Aayog Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Index 2023-24, where three districts of the State rank among the top ten performing districts in the country.
Reacting to a television report, NPF through its Press Bureau said the achievement underscores the State government’s commitment to inclusive growth, balanced regional development, and people-centric governance, and demonstrates effective planning and coordination in improving sectors such as education, healthcare, gender equality, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability.
The party said that an earlier television report, using outdated 2021-22 data, had portrayed Nagaland as among the lowest-performing states and carried sensational captions such as “Is Neiphiu Rio the Worst CM?”, which it termed misleading and irresponsible.
While upholding press freedom, NPF said responsible journalism required accuracy, fairness and balance. Sensational reporting, it stated, undermines media credibility and distorts public understanding, and such narratives were biased and detrimental to healthy public discourse.
NPF recalled that during the 7th meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog in Delhi on August 7, 2022, the chief minister had put forward several proposals to accelerate Nagaland’s development, including six power projects- such as the Tizu Valley Hydro-Electric Project, solar PV grids at Sub-Zhadima, installation of smart meters in Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Kohima, a 132 kV transmission system along the Foothill Road, and last-mile rural electrification across the State.
Rio had also highlighted challenges particular to Nagaland, such as the traditional land-holding system affecting digital agricultural reforms, and sought special consideration for small revenue-deficit states.
His proposals for an A320-capable airport to improve regional connectivity and model degree colleges in remote areas like Wakching and Mangkolemba reflected a forward-looking vision for inclusive development, the party stated.
According to NPF, such foresight is now yielding results as seen in the State’s improved standing in the latest SDG Index.
With the recent merger and the support of the people, the party said Nagaland stands united on the path of development and political stability, and expressed optimism that the State would continue to march towards peace, progress and prosperity.
