Nagaland Theological Colleges Association expresses dismay

Nagaland Theological Colleges Association (NTCA) has expressed dismay at the cartoon caption published in this newspaper on May 6.
In a statement, NTCA president Dr. Alem Sangtam termed it not only derogatory but also display a clear misunderstanding of the rigorous academic standards and values upheld by theological colleges.
He said as an institution committed to nurturing intellectual curiosity, fostering critical thinking, and promoting holistic education, Theological colleges have a long-standing tradition of admitting students based on their academic potential, character, and dedication to serving their communities.

He however added that theological colleges do not engage in admitting the students solely based on academic grades. “We recognize that academic performance is just one aspect of a student’s potential and character,” he said.
NTCA further said that during the admission process, the colleges carefully evaluate each applicant’s academic record, personal statement, recommendations, and extracurricular activities to ensure that they possessed the qualities necessary to thrive in academic community and contribute positively to society.

In conclusion, Nagaland Theological Colleges Association urged upon the newspaper to retract the “defamatory graffiti” while reiterating the theological colleges remain committed to fostering a culture of inclusivity, respect, and intellectual engagement within their institutions and the broader community.
Nagaland Post: This is to state that the caption in the cartoon by a father on his son’s poor marks may be understood from the context of the boy’s academic performance. Therefore, any conceived offence is regretted as there was no such intention and therefore, it is hoped it will be viewed from this perspective.
