In observance of One Health Day on November 3, the Sentinel Surveillance Site at District Hospital Tuensang organised a week-long “One Health Awareness Week 2025” from November 3 to 9, 2025 aimed at fostering cross-sectoral collaboration and raising awareness on zoonotic diseases and antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
The inaugural programme was jointly flagged off by Dr. Sakuyuba Imchen, medical superintendent, District Hospital Tuensang, and Dr. Tochi Chang, nodal officer, NOHP-PCZ, Sentinel Surveillance Site. Representatives from the CMO Office, Forest Department, NOHP-PCZ project, Nursing School, and District Hospital Tuensang attended the launch.
From November 4 to 7, the programme focused on school and college engagement, involving students and faculty from Holy Angel School and Bethesda School. Interactive sessions on the One Health concept were conducted by Dr. Mohan Sharma, microbiologist, and M. Beayu Konyak, BSL-2 lab technician, with support from Sungjemmenla Thonger and Thrilimong Sangtam of the Centre for One Health under the NOHP-PCZ project, NCDC. Awareness materials including posters and pamphlets were distributed to highlight endemic zoonotic diseases such as Brucellosis and Scrub Typhus, along with preventive measures. These materials were also placed around educational institutions to draw public attention.
The final two days focused on community outreach and IEC activities. Expert talks were delivered by senior specialist Dr. Alemba R. Jamir and Dr. Mohan Sharma, in the presence of Dr. Sakuyuba Imchen, emphasizing the importance of AMR and zoonotic disease surveillance.
The team also visited churches and community leaders to advocate the significance of One Health Week and disseminated IEC materials. Citizens were informed about testing facilities available under the NOHP-PCZ project and encouraged to participate in disease prevention efforts.
