Around 500 volunteers, including students, officials from the district administration, and personnel from Dimapur Police, participated in the “Unity March” held Friday morning at Clock Tower, to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The march, jointly organised by Mera Yuva Kendra, district administration and Dimapur Police, with support from various line departments, was flagged off by DCP Dimapur, Khrusa Keyho.
The rally commenced at Clock Tower and culminated at Dimapur Government College, where a brief programme was held at the college auditorium.
Addressing the gathering, DC Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, said that the “Unity March” symbolized the power of collective effort and unity, emphasizing that “when we stand together, we can achieve anything”.
Drawing lessons from Sardar Patel’s life, Dr. Chang highlighted the values of determination, courage, and integrity that defined Patel’s leadership.
He recounted Patel’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming a barrister, calling it an inspiring example of how perseverance and hard work can overcome any obstacle. He also cited anecdotes from Patel’s early life, such as his courage in self-treating a painful wound, reflecting his indomitable spirit and resilience.
On leadership, Dr. Chang recalled Patel’s pivotal role in the Bardoli Satyagraha of 1928, describing him as a visionary leader who mobilized people for a just cause. Patel’s honesty, integrity, and commitment to national unity, he said, remained guiding principles for the youth of today.
Highlighting Patel’s monumental contribution to India’s integration, Dr. Chang said that uniting over 560 princely states into a single nation showcased his vision and statesmanship. He also credited Patel for laying the foundation of India’s “steel frame” by establishing the All-India Services (IAS, IPS, etc.), ensuring a strong and ethical administrative framework.
Earlier, Bendangnaro and Joilem Konyak delivered short speeches on the life and legacy of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, while students of MGM College presented a cultural performance.
The presidential address, brief message on the programme, and vote of thanks, was delivered by District Youth Officer, My Bharat, K Manikanta.
