NDPP Central women organization holds AGM

The NDPP Central Women Organisation (CWO) held its annual general session on August 29 at NDPP Central office conference hall, Kohima under the theme “Breaking Barriers, Creating Change.”


During the first session, guest of honour advisor Industries & Commerce Hekani Jakhalu spoke on teamwork and leadership. Branch Head, assistant vice president at HDFC Lanuakum Jamir highlighted on the financial loans beneficial especially for women.


Later, discussion hour with women organisation from across different regions of the State was also held led by CWO president Vikali A Zhimomi. The first session was chaired by Adv. Renboni, CWO general secretary, vote of thanks by NDPP Kohima region women organisation and member Nagaland State Commission for Women, Kekhrienuo M Mor.


In the second session, minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture Salhoutuonuo Kruse and special guest Kaisa Rio, lady wife of chief minister Nagaland also addressed the gathering.
The presidential address was delivered by CWO president Vikali A Zhimoni, while CWO report was presented by CWO general secretary Irali H Muru.


Closing remarks was delivered by advisor to CM, chairman of IDAN and NDPP secretary general Abu Metha. Vote of thanks was pronounced by NDPP Women organisation Phek region president Vekrolu Khamo while the second session was chaired by Adv. Achung N Phom, CWO secretary.
The meeting also unanimously passed a resolution, accepted by all NDPP women from 60 assembly constituencies.


Resolution: The CWO put on record its appreciation and gratitude to the party leadership for reposing faith and confidence in the leadership of women by granting tickets to women candidates and inducting a woman in the state cabinet for the first time in the history of Nagaland. This, the CWO said exemplified the commitment of NDPP on gender equality as enshrined in the party’s constitution as well as its promise to the people in the election manifesto.


The CWO also appreciated and thanked the State government for appointing the right and capable people as chairperson and members of the Women Commission. While congratulating the new team, it is also requested that the Commission to steadfastly stand for the rights and protection of women and girls.


CWO further appealed to all sections of the Naga society to support women in leadership roles as it was universally proven that having women in leadership roles reduce conflict and promotes human rights while elevating quality of living.


While condemning the violence in neighbouring Manipur, particularly against women and children and the burning down of Churches, the CWO appealed to the people of Manipur and the government of India to restore peace and normalcy in the State at the earliest.


NDPP CWO also resolved to combat the challenges of human trafficking, abuse and violence against women and girls, drugs menace and domestic violence. The house also resolved to address the challenges of discrimination and sexual abuse in workplaces which was found to be rampant in the state and which remains unchecked.
CWO resolved to make tireless efforts to make positive contributions towards welfare of citizens and strengthen the foundations of NDPP for future generations.


Lastly, CWO resolved to strengthen the leadership of the chief minister Neiphiu Rio and party president Chingwang Konyak by remaining “steadfast and firm in our support for the two most dynamic and capable leaders in Nagaland today.”
