The Nagaland Foothill Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) at its meeting held on October 25, 2025, adopted a series of resolutions urging the State government and concerned departments to expedite the ongoing Foothills Road project and ensure transparency in its execution.
In a press release, NFHRCC said it has strongly urged NPWD (R&B) to impress upon the contractor firms engaged in the 17 work orders issued last year to complete their assigned works within the stipulated period, which expires in December 2025, as per the contractual terms signed with the state government.
The committee further reiterated its call to the concerned department to immediately complete the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the second phase of the SASCI Loan Scheme, which covers the remaining portion of the two-lane Foothills Road construction.
NFHRCC also demanded that the ongoing two-lane Foothills Road construction be fully completed before the state government pursues its upgradation to National Highway status with the Union government.
It further insisted that the concerned department adopt an open tender system for the remaining works until the project is made fully motorable.
The committee also reiterated its suggestion that only 10-15 km be allotted per contractor firm based on merit. This, it said, would ensure transparency, competency, and greater participation of young qualified Naga entrepreneurs in the project.
Lastly, NFHRCC urged the chief minister to grant an appointment to the committee for an in-depth discussion on the way forward for the Foothills Road construction, lamenting that its request for a meeting has remained pending since November 2022.
