Nirmal case: DNSU dismayed at govt’s ‘inaction’

DIMAPUR, OCT 23 (NPN)

Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has expressed dismay at what it described as “continued inaction” of the state government in connection with the Nirmal Jain case.
In a press note, DNSU vice president R Micheal Yanthan and general secretary Michael Kath stated continued inaction on the part of the government would compel the union to initiate democratic forms of protest and agitation.
It stated that even after nearly six months since the union took up the matter and submitted all relevant evidence and documentation, the government’s “lack of response” reflected “a concerning degree of indifference.” DNSU stated that despite DC) Dimapur submitting findings to the commissioner of Nagaland over a month ago, it was to receive any official response or communication from the government regarding further action.
The union has reminded the state government that the Naga public was “eagerly awaiting the outcome of this case”, adding that the government’s decision would be “closely observed and judged by the people.”
DNSU maintained that the outcome would not only serve as an eye-opener but also send a strong and clear message against individuals or entities who exploit the Naga people through illegal and fraudulent means.
Further, DNSU cautioned that any individuals or groups found engaging in transactions, or in the buying and selling of land, or in any dealings related to Nirmal Jain would “face strong resistance from the Union and the public.” It also warned that any government agencies, officials, groups, CSOs, or individuals found taking “undue advantage of this issue for personal gain will be strictly dealt with.”
Meanwhile, the union reaffirmed its commitment to defend and uphold the rights of the Naga people.
