NMSA to hold peaceful protest on Aug 30

DIMAPUR, AUG 29 (NPN)

Nagaland Medical Students’ Association (NMSA) along with medical and allied health aspirants would hold a peaceful agitation at the premises of Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) department, Kohima on August 30, 2025 at 10am.
In a press release, NMSA president Pito S Rochill and general secretary Bonoto P Zimo informed that the proposed agitation was in response to the recent notification to regularize 280 contractual posts through a departmental screening committee in the H&FW department.
NMSA stated that the move to regularise contractual posts was in clear contravention of established recruitment norms, constitutional provisions, and the fundamental rights of aspirants. The association also stated that “such an arbitrary decision” not only undermined the principle of fair and merit-based selection, but also jeopardized the credibility and future of public health services in the state.
Meanwhile, NMSA has appealed to all like-minded student organizations, NGOs, civil society groups, and right-thinking citizens to stand with them in this democratic movement. “Together, we must ensure that fairness, justice, and equal opportunity prevail in the recruitment process of the health sector,” the association maintained.
Further, NMSA stated that the proposed peaceful agitation would serve as a unified voice against the erosion of meritocracy and demand for accountability from the responsible authorities.
NNQF backs NMSA
Nagaland NET Qualified Forum (NNQF) has condemned regularisation of 98 contractual medical officers/junior specialists along with other contractual posts through departmental screening, instead of recruitment through the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC).
In a press release, NNQF expressed deep concern over the regularization and asserted that such move contradicted and violated the fundamental right to equal opportunity and meritocracy.
NNQF also affirmed solidarity with the Nagaland Medical Students Association (NMSA) in their demand for the revocation of the notification and the fight for merit-based recognition, equitable opportunities, and an accountable, transparent and better healthcare system in Nagaland.
The forum has, therefore, urged the responsible authorities to uphold the constitutional fundamental rights and to restore the spirit of meritocracy.
Further, NNQF called upon all civil society organisations, non-governmental bodies and responsible citizens to extend support to NMSA’s fight for justice.
NNQF reiterated its stand for the right to equal opportunity, meritocracy and solidarity with all those who work towards the building of a more egalitarian society.
