Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president K. Therie while condemning the killing of two boys and injury of several youths has said that the ego of NPF-BJP Government has created avoidable tumultuous situation in the State and caused loss to precious lives and properties.
In a condemnation note, Therie said, although late, the January 30 coming to terms with the JCC in the presence of NBCC gave hope of return to normalcy. However, he lamented that the Government has brought a long split order betraying the JCC, NBCC and the people saying “the order is the highest act of treachery after statehood.”
Stating that the government has created irretrievable division in society, NPCC president said it has divided the minds of women and men and has divided tribe organizations and government.
He then said that ULB election should be cancelled for now. Since Government is responsible for the loss of lives and properties and failure to conduct peaceful ULB elections, he said the Government must own moral responsibility in humility and resign in favour of fresh mandate.
Therie also claimed that the NPF party was aware that town council election would be conducted irrespective of January 30 agreement. NPCC president claimed that by early January 31 morning before the cabinet meeting, he received calls from remotest corners of Nagaland confirming about the election in town council while election in disturbed areas may be postponed for two months. “It was confusing since the agreement says ULB election will be postponed. The agreement did not talk about split ULB election”, said Therie. The NPCC president then said that there was nothing wrong in taking the advice of the opposition party as Congress has also participated in the election and have at least 25% votes in the State.
He reminded that Congress cautioned the Government on 12/1/2017, in a resolution urging the Government to postpone the ULB election to develop consensus
Meanwhile, the NPCC president on behalf of self and all rank and file of Congressmen and women has conveyed deep heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members, friends and associates.
NTC flays govt ‘immaturity’ on youths death
DIMAPUR: Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) has questioned the “immaturity” and “incapacity” of the state government in handling the issue that led to the death of two innocent youths in the police firing on January 31. Media cell of NTC said that the loss of precious life would have been averted, had the government exercised “tact, care and statesman”, when it was already an indication that the situation was likely to turn ugly. NTC also slammed state government in mishandling the situation and for crating division among the citizens of the state. Rather, NTC strongly felt that whatever may be the situation that disconnects the citizens and the government on the present controversial issue, the people should have a meeting point under any circumstances “as we cannot imagine destroying Nagaland just because of a discord on an issue”. Therefore, NTC appealed to all concern to let just and reason precede emotions and exercise restrained in order to avoid further damage beyond what has happened already. Further, condemning the incident, NTC prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace. NTC also expressed sympathy with the injured persons at different places and wished them speedy recovery.
