NPF hands RS ticket to Kenye

Nagaland People’s Front (NPF) president, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu administered oath of pledge and handed the party ticket to Rajya Sabha (RS) aspirant NPF general secretary, KG Kenye at the “ticket distribution ceremony of Rajya Sabha parliamentary constituency Nagaland election 2016” at its central office, Friday. Election for the lone RS seat from Nagaland will be held on March 21. The sole seat fell vacant in April after MP to RS, Khekiho Zimomi passed away in November last. In his acceptance speech, Kenye said that there are still few more days to go before aspiration is confirmed.
However, with the standing number of the party’s legislators and electoral college consisting of 60 members in state assembly, Kenye expressed confidence that working committee’s decision and endorsement from other alliance partners and “friends” would “surely” yield result.
He said the present batch of NPF party workers are the “most fortunate”, since their “set of leaders” were thoughtful in providing best services to workers, and all of them were “handsomely rewarded”.  Kenye also promised to perform his best inside as well as outside the house of parliament, if elected. In his brief speech, Dr. Shürhozelie apprised that meeting that selection of candidate for RS election was conducted smoothly in all fairness, where all party members expressed their views in a “free and frank” manner.
Dr. Shürhozelie expressed hope that Kenye would present the real image of Nagaland to the parliament. He also expressed solidarity to former Rajya Sabha MP, late Khekiho Zhimomi for playing a vital role and understanding among different section of society.Chief minister, T.R. Zeliang said the tradition of NPF party was always for consensus or unanimous while selecting party president or to select member to represent in the RS. He informed that working committee under chairmanship of the president convened a meeting on March 2, where every member expressed their feelings without fear or favour.
He pointed out that all 11 candidates for the party ticket were heavy weight and capable leaders, however the party did not face any tussle as party functionaries cooperated on the decision taken by the highest body- working committee. Lamenting that the decision to choose only one candidature for RS seat was difficult; Zeliang said NPF being in coalition with BJP, the BJP candidates also wrote to president and chief minister to give them a chance. Since there was only one seat, the decision had to be made by the highest level of the party, and for which unfortunately BJP could not be accommodated, he said. However, Zeliang said after the decision of working committee, the president immediately convened DAN coordination meeting, where BJP endorsed in principal to agree the candidature selected by NPF.
