Nagaland RMSA Teachers’ Association (NRMSATA) 2016 batch has rejected as “misleading and insensitive” the Samagra Shiksha Nagaland (SSN) mission director’s statement the department has requested the RMSA 2016 teachers to have patience and wait for the outcome since the matter was in court.
In a statement, the association said “RMSA Teachers of the 2016 batch, are deeply dismayed by the Mission Director’s appeal to ‘have patience’ and wait for the outcome of a review petition filed before the Hon’ble Supreme Court on August 14, 2025.”
The association maintained that RMSA 2016 batch teachers have already shown “extraordinary patience” as they waited for over nine years for the government to provide them the rightful service benefits that were legally due.
NRMSATA 2016 pointed out that Gauhati High Court, through its division bench judgment dated March 16, 2022, ruled “unequivocally” in their favour. The association further pointed out that the High Court judgment was subsequently upheld by the Supreme Court. It said the judgment clearly directed the government to release scale pay immediately, but the authorities have blatantly ignored.
“To make matters worse, our salaries have not been paid since April 2025, pushing many teachers into severe financial hardship,” NRMSATA 2016 stated.
Despite clear court verdicts, the association said the state government failed to implement those binding orders till date. NRMSATA 2016 stated that filing a review petition at this stage only reflected an attempt to delay justice rather than address the issue sincerely.
The association stated that RMSA 2016 teachers have not received any official notice from the Supreme Court regarding the “so-called review petition.”
It also said that no stay order has been issued either by the Gauhati High Court or Supreme Court.
Therefore, the association maintained that the judgment in their favour remains valid, operative, and binding on the state government. NRMSATA 2016 stated that government cannot expect them to remain silent spectators while their fundamental rights and livelihoods were being denied under the pretext of “waiting for the outcome.”
“Our demands are not favours, but lawful entitlements already upheld by the courts- ROP 2017 pay scale with annual increments, recognition of service from the date of appointment (2016), and parity with our counterparts of the 2010–13 batch,” the association stated.
NRMSATA 2016 said that continued denial of their rights compelled them to adopt democratic forms of agitation.
It further stated that government’s failure to implement court orders despite clear verdicts in their favour was a blatant violation of justice. The association stated that if the government was truly sincere, it should immediately implement the court’s rulings instead of hiding behind review petitions.
Meanwhile, the association has affirmed that agitation would continue until government met its demands. It said that the onus for any disruption of academic activities rested solely with the State government, not with the aggrieved teachers.
NWHD backs RMSA 2016 teachers: Naga Women Hoho Dimapur (NWHD) has expressed concern over the prolonged delay by the state government in implementing the prescribed pay scale for the RMSA 2016 batch teachers.
In a press release, NWHD said the government’s statement, which informed that the matter has been sent to the Supreme Court for a review petition on August 14 only added to the frustration of the teachers who have already waited for years.
The hoho stated that asking the teachers to “remain patient” while they struggled to support their families was “unjust and insensitive.”
NWHD stated that delaying justice for teachers was equivalent to delaying the future of students.
It maintained that government’s continued ignorance was putting the education of students at serious risk. “This is not merely an issue concerning educators it directly impacts the overall growth and development of our state,” hoho stated.
Therefore, NWHD has strongly urged the government to take immediate and decisive action to resolve the long pending matter.
