As part of the 75th anniversary celebration of the National Sample Survey (NSS), the National Statistics Office (NSO), Kohima, organised a workshop on “Survey Participation Benefits” cum essay competition on September 24 at the Conference Hall of Transport Commissionerate Building, Kohima.
The programme began with a briefing by E. Renbi Jami, director, NSO (FOD), RO Kohima, who highlighted the significance of public participation in national surveys. Neisatuo Puro, additional director, Directorate of Economics & Statistics, spoke on the role of reliable data in effective planning and policy-making.
Dr. Pallab Changkakoti, Associate Professor and HoD, Department of Statistics, Kohima Science College, emphasised the importance of official statistics in national development. Dr. Ratan Kaurinta, Associate Professor, Department of Commerce, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, shared insights on NSS data from a stakeholder’s perspective. Prof. Kh. Devananda Singh, HoD, Department of Management, NU Kohima Campus, spoke on the relevance of data in social science research.
LK. Ngathingkhui, Assistant Director, NSO (FOD), RO Kohima, presented recent survey findings related to the North-Eastern states. Field staff SS Raj Kumar Malik and SS Talizenba Jamir shared their experiences and challenges in conducting large-scale surveys.
An on-the-spot essay writing competition on the topic “Challenges in Conducting Large Scale Surveys” was held in the second session. A total of 20 students from six colleges and Nagaland University participated. Lika K Aye (Kohima Science College) won the first prize, followed by Jano Nakhro (Kohima Science College) and Vilibo Aye (Mount Olive College) in second and third positions respectively.
The programme was compered by SSO Nenghoilhing Haolai, with welcome address by SSO R Mhabemo Ngullie and vote of thanks by SSO Imtizulu.
