Expressing shock at the recent incident of the killing of two GPRN/NSCN cadres and a civilian in Arunachal Pradesh by suspected NSCN (I-M) cadres, Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) feared that the incident could once again ignite fratricidal clashes, if not contained immediately. In a press note by its media cell, NTC said the killing was a grim reminder of “our bitter past” of how groups gave their best to finish each other through violence.
Condemning the killers, the council said the entire incident was in disregard to the popular desire of the Nagas for peace and peaceful coexistence, besides endangering the prevailing peaceful atmosphere, including the ongoing negotiation process. NTC said after years of conflicts amongst Nagas that “delighted adversaries”, the people have been enjoying relative peace during the last few years without bloodshed.
NTC appealed to the “aggrieved party” to show tolerance and maturity for the sake of the ongoing political negotiation, which may attain logical result. Urging the Nagas to realise that allowing any cowardice element to sabotage the peace process will only lead to “history of regrets”, NTC appealed to the people to stand as one behind those who are in pursuit of political solution and not swayed by pro-conflict elements.
GRPN/NSCN MIP identified the two slain cadres as ‘capt.’ Ranchoan, son of Wangjo of Paniduria village, Tirap district and ‘corpl.’ Lainwang Konyak, son of Pongkei Konyak of Yuching village Mon district.
