NWHD flays sexual misconduct at SSP; OBASS visits school

DIMAPUR, OCT 2 (NPN)

DIMAPUR, OCT 2 (NPN): Reports of “sexual misconduct” by a senior student of Sainik School Punglwa (SSP) has sparked strong reaction from the Naga Women Hoho Dimapur (NWHD) while Old Boys Association of Sainik Schools (OBASS), Nagaland chapter has outlined steps taken to address the offence.
What was noted is that the offender, supposedly from another state, has been expelled “indefinitely” and sent back to his home state without the matter being taken up at appropriate levels as is mandatory.
According to informed sources more victims have come out with allegations against the accused, who now fits the description of serial abuser.
NWHD: Expressing deep shock over the reports of sexual misconduct by a senior student at SSP, Naga Women Hoho Dimapur(NWHD)said the incident was a breach of trust for parents from Nagaland and beyond, who make sacrifices to send their children with high hopes to the reputed institution known for discipline and values. NWHD also expressed concern that the incident may not be an isolated incident.
It has called upon the school administration to take the matter with utmost seriousness and ensure to take strict action and long-term preventive measures.
NWHD cautioned that such incidents could inflict lasting psychological harm on students, including depression, anxiety, and erosion of trust.
Further, NWHD urged all educational institutions to remain vigilant and adopt strong preventive measures against sexual harassment, particularly cases disguised as “ragging” by seniors, stressing that such acts must be addressed swiftly and firmly.
OBASS: Meanwhile, Old Boys Association of Sainik Schools(OBASS), Nagaland Chapter, issued a statement with regard to the incident at SSP on September 21, which had subsequently gone viral on social media.
OBASS Nagaland chapter president cadet H. K. Khulu and press secretary cadet Deepak Chettri in a joint statement said a five-member OBASS team, led by vice president cadet Yangba Konyak, met with the vice principal, administrative officer, and two other officials of SSP on October 1.
OBASS said it was learnt that the principal of the school was away on official duty in Arunachal Pradesh at the time.
During the interaction, OBASS said the vice principal informed the team that the young offender, a Class XII student, had been expelled from the school indefinitely and sent back to his home state on
September 29. OBASS said the vice principal also disclosed that both the offender and the victim were juveniles.
Thus, in accordance with the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, OBASS said the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) would be conducting a detailed investigation into the case.
OBASS also said the Child Welfare Committee, Peren, has already visited the school on September 30, 2025 and carried out a preliminary investigation.
Further, OBASS said its representatives met with the president and joint secretary of the Sainik School Parents’ Association and agreed to hold a joint meeting with the SSP principal on October 8, 2025.
