To commemorate the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day (PHRD), Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Lumding division organized an event at Dimapur railway station on Wednesday.
The event was graced by president, Dimapur Bengali Samaj Kamala Kanta Paul as chief guest.
The day is commemorated every year on August 14, since 2021 to remind the present and future generations of India about the pain and sufferings faced by the people of India during the partition.
Paul, in his speech emphasized the immense sacrifices made by the Indian people to achieve independence. Reflecting on the division of India and Pakistan, the speaker noted that religious barriers should not dictate the interactions, highlighting Dimapur as a model of peaceful coexistence where all communities live harmoniously.
Drawing attention to the current global situation, Paul expressed concern about how religion has been used to incite violence against others, stressing that religion should be a personal matter confined to the home. In public life, the focus should be on humanity and unity.
The chief guest also paid tribute to past leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, while acknowledging the painful events that led to the partition of the country.
He further expressed gratitude to the soldiers for their dedication and sacrifice, praising the Nagas as broad-minded and courageous people.
He emphasized the need to cultivate inner strength and courage, and concluded by echoing Prime Minister Modi’s call for strengthening the nation.
Earlier, the program was chaired by Headmaster Dimapur Railway High School (DRHS), Swagatam Ray, brief introduction about the purpose of exhibition by asst teacher DRHS Rupa Dutta Dey, patriotic songs by DRHS students followed by cultural programme.
It may be mentioned that the same event was held at Guwahati, Silchar, Lumding and Agartala railway station.
